Navajo Tribe Introduction The Navajo tribes have been known to be a controversial tribe, in some ways. Even though they are a controversial tribe, they can still be a very caring and peaceful tribe also.
Location The Navajo are known to have lived in southwest from northwestern Canada and Alaska. That was before there was settlers. But after the settlers came they migrated in the in the Southwest area around Arizona, Utah, and New Mexico.
Major Figures There is mainly only one major figure in the Navajo tribe. This figure is "The Great Chief." The Great Chief was the major leader of the Navajo tribe in the 19th century. His name meant Manuelito or Little Manuel.
Culture: Weapons There are not many weapons that the Navajo tribe used. But they did use some, such as bows and arrows used for hunting, and spears and rawhide shields for war and battles.
Tools They used wooden hoes , and rakes for farming, spindles and looms for weaving, and pump drills for borrowing holes in turquise and other bids.
Religion
The Navajo tribes thought the land was holy. They also worshiped many gods and other supernatural powers. Most important among the tribe is a group of anthropomorphic deities (meaning worshiping not humans)- this group worshiped Changing Woman or Spider Woman.
Arts The Navajo tribe did everything handmade. They made pottery, kachina dolls, rugs, dream catchers, etc. Most pottery is is made from clay and every different vase or new piece is different. With kachina dolls, they represent the benevolent spirits and are spiritual messsengers that bring special blessings, but they are not gods. Their rugs sometimes had special meanings to them like from past times or of special people. The dream catchers are to attract all dreams to its web as they float by and are to catch all the bad dreams.

The deer hide was made into leggings, leather moccasins, and salk sashes.These pieces of clothing were made for the men. The women would wair dresses, blankets, and shawls.

They didn't have doors then so they used rugs or blankets. On the hogans the door would always face the east so they could see the sun in the morning and for good blessings.
